Freezing Rain

FREEZING RAIN manifests a moment in a rainstorm.
From that moment of ephemerality, Crown sought to translate her experience from concept to form through curious exploration, and this fleeting gesture transformed into a solid composition. Based on Crown’s drawings, these individual raindrops were then digitally mapped and fully realized in 3D form. The ‘droplets’ are rendered in paper-thin stainless-steel and super mirror. Selected for their reflective and technical qualities, such materials are also used in satellites and telescopes. The cascades of raindrops are suspended in microfilament and are animated by the environment reflecting the colors and movements of a viewer.
Our actions can serve as a physical record of our experiences. Crown’s intense focus on an individual raindrop is captured as an “analog” mark hand-drawn was then further transformed by the technical precision of the unique material and installation design.
Act, otherwise the moment is lost. That is only the beginning of real knowing.
